Since 1871, De Koninklijke prijs voor de vrije schilderkunst (Royal Awards for Pictorial Art) is an award intended to support young, talented Dutch active painters. Things have changed over the course of the years. Paintings have become images. In the modern era of Google, images have become interchangeable and cheaply accessible. Even though the awarded paintings are created with attention and talent, the reproductions (images) of paintings make the works equal to all other images that can be found in between your google image search results. A small image is as worthless or valuable as any other. To encourage the reader to really value and look at the paintings the catalog displays the paintings real-size, dispersed over many pages.

Made in collaboration with Maaike Molenkamp for Koninklijke prijs voor de vrije schilderkunst and The Queen Of Holland.
